Lord Browne's review has called for a scrap of the current £3,290 cap on fees, which English universities are permitted to charge.
The proposal of a free market on fees will allow individual universities to determine the fees that they will charge students to enroll and take up degree places.
Figures of up to £12,000 per year could now be implemented for degree courses at English universities.
Graduates will be expected to begin making re-payments once they are earning £21K in the job market however the UCU Lecturer's Union has expressed their concerns that Lord Browne's Review will be the "final nail in the coffin of affordable higher education" in the UK. They have also commented that graduates will be faced with "mortgage like costs" in pursuing a university education.
Lord Browne was quoted as saying that "We have taken off the cap but we haven't taken off the restrictions."
"He said all universities were different and needed different amounts of money to retain their world class status, but he predicted that few would put fees very high."
Of course, the fee paying structure of a university education has been existence in the USA for many years and students attending US universities have had to find ways of finding the finances to pay their way through the university system.
The diversity of universities in the United States range from large public schools similar to the ones found in major UK cities to private universities which are plentiful and thriving within the US structure.
It has been suggested that the UK might very well see the emergence of private universities which will seek to follow the US model.
College Sport USA, have for many years now, provided guidance and advice on the US university system and of the incredible advantages of being eligible to receive highly coveted scholarship funding.
It has in the past been very interesting to gauge the reaction of British students and families when outlining the fee paying structure the US university system in comparison to the previously favorable English university system.
Perhaps with the cost of an English university education about to rise so dramatically in the years ahead, there is a strong possibility that prospective student athletes considering studying at an American university will gain a much better understanding and appreciation of why scholarship funding is so highly sought after and ultimately extremey competitive to achieve.
A scholarship is an honor desired by many, but bestowed on very few!
