Shut Out and Win for NYIT's Michael Doran

October 3rd 2010 -

Since our previous report on the progress of our New York based goalkeeper, Michael Doran, we are delighted to report that his NYIT Bears Team have went on a winning streak and have found form at a crucial stage of the season.

Michael's fine recent performances have been rewarded by a clean sheet in a recent match against conference rivals Molloy College. The match report below reflects on Michael's leadership of his defence and is a great compliment for the lad.

Well done from all the staff at College Sport USA! We are delighted that you have established yourself as the team No.1.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2010) – NYIT men’s soccer earned its first East Coast Conference win on Sunday with a 1-0 victory at Molloy College. The Bears improved to 3-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in ECC play, while the Lions dropped to 2-7-0 overall and 0-2-0 in ECC action.

Junior forward Farah Toure (Prince George, Md.) earned the game-winning goal for the Bears in the 11th minute. With an assist from freshman Matthew DiDonna (West Islip, N.Y.), Toure’s diving header found the lower left corner of the net.

The Bears defense lead by freshman goalkeeper Michael Doran (Liverpool, England) successfully held off the Lions for the remaining 79 minutes that included 13 shots in the second half. Doran earned the win and the shutout, playing all 90 minutes in goal and posted four saves.

NYIT returns to action in another ECC soccer doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 9 against the University of Bridgeport. The men will kickoff at Noon, while the women will follow at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be held at President’s Stadium on the Old Westbury campus of NYIT.
