More than just Soccer for College Sport USA's David Mitchell

Monday 6th September -

If ever proof was needed that the experience of heading off to begin a college soccer career was much more than just about a game then College Sport USA's David Mitchell certainly found this out during an action packed week in South Carolina.

David and his team-mates at Tri-County Technical College joined forces with international charity foundation, "Habitat for Humanity", a christian based organisation which helps to provide sustainable housing for vulnerable people througout the USA and the rest of the world.

They spent a few days hard at work assisting in the building work of just such a project and Coach Heberling was delighted to have his team forge close bonds during the exercise.

For David himself, it must have proved to be a very challenging affair, given that the work would have taken place under a sweltering Carolina sky.

American colleges are always very active in their local communities and with the popularity of sports in general, it is often the college teams who take on the projects. It allows the teams to get out and meet the people in the community who often turn up to support the teams in action.

The team spirit built up during the "Habitats for Hummanities" project obvioulsy had the desired effect as The Tri County Hawks ran out impressive 3-1 winners against tough opponents USC Sumter this weekend.

It was an especially proud moment for our staff here at College Sport USA when we found out that David had been made Team Captain for this match.

To be made captain of a collegiate team within a month of arriving on campus is a quite remarkable feat and a huge honour for David.

David is pictured in the centre of the photograph with a hammer in his hand.
