Gregg Munn Scores a Thunderbolt Opener in Mars Hill College Win

October 13th 2010 - Article by David Binnie, C Sport USA

The wonders of modern technology permit me and my staff to keep up-to-date with our US based players on an almost daily basis.

I found myself settling down just before midnight UK time to take in live online broadcast of the match between Mars Hill College and State Rivals Lenoir-Rhyne University.

My toast and horlicks flew into the air and the dog was awoken in the 35th minute when our Scottish player, Gregg Munn picked up the ball 30 yards from goal before unleashing and unstoppable bullet into the top corner of the net to give Mars Hill the lead.

It was a highly competitive match played at a fast pace and in the end Mars Hill College ran out comfortable winners by 3-0 to keep up their excellent record this season.

Gregg has made an outstanding contribution to his new team and has really made the centre of the field his own in recent matches. With Gregg's expereince playing on the Scottish U-18 National Team, his presence will be important as Mars Hill aim for an NCAA National Tournament appearance in 2010.

Mars Hill, N.C. - The No. 25 Mars Hill College Men's Soccer Team (10-1-1, 5-1-1) shut out Lenoir-Rhyne University (6-5, 2-3), 3-0, Tuesday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at Meares Stadium.

Three different players scored for the Lions, who bounced back after suffering their first defeat of the year last Saturday to hand the Bears their fourth consecutive loss.

Mars Hill's Gregg Munn (Falkirk, SCOTLAND) opened the scoring in the 35th minute with the first goal of his career with a shot from 30 yards out.

Giovanni Malnati (Guayaquil, ECUADOR) gave the Lions a 2-0 advantage with a goal right in front of the net with just under two minutes remaining before intermission.

Stephen Bivens (Douglasville, Ga.) rounded out the scoring for Mars Hill in the 50th minute with a shot to the bottom right corner of the net.

Isaiah Schafer (Lakewood, Colo.) assisted on the second and third goals for the Lions, who also held a 20-13 advantage in shots in picking up the shutout win.

Mars Hill's goalkeeper, Zac Scott (Pittsboro, N.C.), picked up the victory after stopping seven shots. L-R freshman Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) suffered the loss in goal despite tallying eight saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne looks to halt its losing streak when it returns home to face Limestone in a non-conference affair Thursday at 7 p.m.

Mars Hill, meanwhile, travels to Bristol, Tenn., to take on King on Saturday beginning at 3:30 p.m
