College Sport USA's Alex Wright and Ben Malone have both become an integral part of the recent success of the Emmanuel College Lions Mens Soccer Program as the team put together a strong run towards a Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament berth.
Alex Wright is currently ranked 2nd in the NCCCA National Rankings for statistic points whilst Ben Malone is hitting a rich vein of form with 5 goals in 4 matches.

In the past 3 games the Soccer Lions have amassed three victories, a total of 24 goals for, and 0 goals against. These victories have come against Tennessee Temple University (13-0), Talladega College (7-0), and Warren Wilson College (4-0).
On September 20, 2010 the Soccer Lions hosted the Crusaders of Tennessee Temple University. The scoring opened up in the first minute, when Alex Wright(FR) earned a Penalty Kick that Shezti Heu converted to make it 1-0. Just 20 minutes in to the game the Lions were leading TTU 7-0. The Lions would score one more goal before halftime to take the score to 8-0. Emmanuel kept the pressure on and added 5 more goals before the end of the game to take the final total to 13 goals! This is a new record for most goals scored by and Emmanuel College soccer team. Leading the charge on goal was Jonathan Faile(FR) with 4 goals and Shezti Heu(SR) with 2 goals. Sebastian Paz(SR), Alex Wright(FR), Daniel Sucedo(FR), Edward Ameyaw(SO), Ben Malone(FR), Paul Bates(SO), Micheal Huskins(JR) each added a goal apiece.
On September 25, 2010 the Lions hosted first year program, Talladega College. In a game that saw the Soccer Lions tally 43 total shots, 26 of which were on goal, EC earned a victory 7-0. The shot total is the highest amount the Lions have tallied all season. Six different Soccer Lions found the back of the net: leading the way was Jorge Paseta(JR) with 2 goals. Ben Malone(FR), Sebastian Paz(SR), Andres Mora(FR), Edward Ameyaw(SO), and Shezti Heu(SR) all added a goal apiece.
On September 28, 2010 the Soccer Lions travelled to Swannanoa, North Carolina to face Warren Wilson College and came away victorious 4-0. The Fighting Owls of WWC put up a stubborn defensive effort which seemed to frustrate the Soccer Lions until Alex Wright(FR) broke through on an great individual effort and scored in the 25th minute to take the score to 1-0. EC struck again just 3 minutes later when Eddie Green(FR) crossed a ball into the 6yd box that found Jonathan Faile's(FR) head to redirect into the back of the net. The Lions took the 2-0 lead into the half-time break.
After the break, the Lions started the 2nd period strong putting a barrage of crosses and shots on goal that seemed to be too much for WWC. As the Fighting Owls began to wear down, Emmanuel's Ben Malone(FR) added two more goals to put the game out of reach. Shezti Heu(SR) and Andres Mora(FR) each tallied an assist on Malone's goals.
In the three matches the Lions tallied 66 shots while only conceding 3 shots. These wins and goal totals have taken the 2010 Lions beyond their 2009 season records, showing the vast improvements the program continues to make.
Head Coach Borchers added "I'm very happy with our attacking rhythm right now. We are scoring goals now and this has been a problem for us in the past. The boys are continuing to gain confidence and that is important as we begin our Southern States Conference play next week!"
The Lions will open up SSAC play October 9th when they host Southern Polytechnic State University at 4pm.
