College Sport USA's latest recruit Ross Alexander has led his new Stirling Albion FC Academy side to it's best start to a league campaign for 5 years.
Since joining the club in August from St Johnstone FC Ross has quickly established himself as a real leader both on and off the field.
Ross was awarded for his efforts by being handed the captains armband for the first match of the SFL U-19 League Season. Unfortunately Stirling Albion never got off to the start that they would have hoped for, dropping 3 points on the road at Ayr United FC.
They say that you learn more about an individual and of course about a team when they are faced with adversity!
Both the team and Ross in his role as captain have bounced back brilliantly by winning their next 3 league matches.
Stirling Abion Coach David Binnie says of Alexanders contribution:
"Although we are very early in the season, the team is flourishing and Ross is proving to be a very good captain. He is leading by example in training and is vocal and encouraging in matches."
Ross Alexander will at the end of the season hope to follow in the footsteps of last years Stirling Albion FC captain Gregg Munn, who is currently enjoying an outstanding start to his collegiate career at Mars Hill University in North Carolina.
A professional contract may or may not be offered to Ross next season with the first team at the club, but he is not about to make the mistake of putting all of his eggs in one basket and hoping for his big break in the senior game.
Ross is quite rightly preparing for both eventualities and will be taking his SAT Test in October this year.
If he is offered a professional contract then a decision will have to be made as to whether he opts for this career path or whether he decides to take the plunge and secure a place at one of the American universities who would love to have a player of his ability and experience to lead their teams.
The benefit of watching his former team mates move to the USA and doing so well has inevitably whetted Ross's appetite, and he is focusing on playing at a level of consistency this season which will see him grab an opportunity to emulate their success.
