Career Milestone for Grandview University Head Coach Blair Reid

September 18th 2010 -

College Sport USA wish to extend our congratulations to Grandview University Head Coach Blair Reid on his 300th Career Win.

This remarkable achievement comes at a time with his current team on a 7 game winning streak. The 300th game victory was made all the sweeter as it came against the formidible former NAIA National Champions, Graceland.

The line-up of the Grandview University viking team is currently packed full of players that College Sport USA Sporting Futures Manager, David Binnie, personally recommended to Coach Reid.

This long standing relationship has resulted in no fewer than 7 current players lining up for the Vikings as they strive for National Tournament glory in 2010.

"It is a relationship based upon trust and of course the continued success of our recommendations, said College Sport's David Binnie." "The very fact that Coach Reid has brought in players on my recommendation for the past 5 seasons and has just invested in the future of our most recent recruit, Matthew Kenton, is an indication of how much he trusts our opinion on international recruits. I very much hope to continue supplying Grandview University with players in the coming years. I would also love to see Coach Reid achieve the national success both he and his players crave.

The Viking men's soccer team improved to 7-0 on the season with a 2-1 win over Graceland University tonight in Des Moines. With the vistory, Grand View Head Coach Blair Reid collected his 300th career win. Reid, in his 26th season at Grand View, has compiled an overall record of 300-187-28 as the head men's soccer coach.

It was a great game for Coach Reid's milestone victory, a hard fought match down to the wire. The Vikings were up 1-0 at the half courtesy of a goal by Ariko Kaziboni in the 39th minute. Kaziboni finished a direct kick that hit the pole with assists going to Jonny MacAdam and Noel Medina.

Grand View put another goal on the board in the 51st minute as Luis Heiter-Piffer nailed a shot from 45 yards out. The Yellowjackets continued to battle and Rodrigo Espiru slipped one past GV defense assisted by Aaron Cairns to close the gap 2-1.

Graceland gave the Vikings a scare with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest. The Yellowjackets appeared to have scored, but the goal did not count as a Graceland player was called offsides.

"I was very proud of our team's performance tonight; it was a hard fought match to the end. It was a special night and I couldn't help but to think of all of the players, including our assistant coaches, that have been through the program and had a hand in tonight's milestone victory," commented Reid.

Three of Grand View's assistant coaches, Neil Olson, Al Driscoll, and Lyall Menzies all played under Reid. Reid and his teams have collected eleven MCC titles and made five NAIA national tournament appearances.

"Congratulations to Coach Blair Reid on achieving the 300-win milestone. Years of tireless recruiting and passionate coaching have put him in a position to accumulate this very impressive number of victories. This accomplishment is truly a reflection of the successes of many student athletes, assistant coaches and Coach Reid's vision to make Grand View Men's Soccer one of the top programs in the country," said Grand View Athletic Director Troy Plummer.

Coach Reid is currently No. 14 in the NAIA in winningest all-time coaches and No. 9 among active coaches.
