GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Limestone College (4-2, 1-1) men’s soccer team recorded their second home shutout win as they blanked Barton College (1-4, 1-1) in Conference Carolinas action by a count of 5-0 this afternoon, September 18, at Saints Field. The Saints have now outscored opponents 12-1 in three home contests to start the 2010 season. LC improves to 4-2 on the year while also moving to 1-1 in league play while the Bulldogs fall to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Junior midfielder Keegan Ziada (Melbourne, Australia) continues his hot start, recording a second straight game with at least two goals. He recorded his first score at the seven minute mark, taking freshman forward Jack Bailey’s (London, England) cross deep in the box and unloading on an empty net to put the Saints up 1-0.

Limestone went up 2-0 nine minutes later as freshman defender Calvin Bond (Stirling, Scotland) blasted a corner kick from the far sideline by junior midfielder Lee Smyth (Somerset, England) for his first goal of the season. Junior midfielder Mike Stephenson (Bristol, England) ended the scoring in the first half with his first goal of the year by rocketing a shot 20 yards out and depositing it in the upper portion of the net.

LC dominated the first half, outpacing Barton 13-5 in shots taken while also enjoying a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks at the break. The Saints were just as effective in the second frame as they collected 17 shots as compared to the Bulldogs three. For the game, Limestone held a wide 30-8 margin in shots.

Following halftime, sophomore forward Junior Ellis put the home team up 4-0 when he collected a loose ball in the box and placed it in the back of the net in the 55th minute before Ziada added his second score of the game two minutes later as he again found an open net following a rebounded shot. Ziada now has seven goals on the season.

The true freshman defensive unit of Bond, Larry Mahon (Kildare, Ireland), and Mark Mitchell (Paisley, Scotland) kept most Bulldog offensive threats neutralized and helped senior keeper H.B. Lockwood (Anderson, S.C.) and freshman keeper Tyler Young Lawrenceville, Ga.) maintain a clean sheet for the match. Lockwood recorded three saves in 70 minutes of action while Young preserved the shutout in 20 minutes of playing time.

Richard Worthy (Cannock, England) led Barton with three shots while Erik Pajunk (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) and Thomas Goulden (Southern Pines, N.C.) each recorded two shots.

Limestone begins a two-game road trip as they travel to play Mars Hill this Wednesday, September 22. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m
