Emmanuel College won their home opener Saturday, September 11, versus North Greenville University by the score of 2-1. In a hard-fought physical battle that saw 9 yellow cards and 1 red card, the Soccer Lions emerged victorious in their seventh game of the season.

The scoring opened up in the 27th minute when Alex Wright(FR) received a cross from Ben Malone(FR) and shot with his first touch to put the Lions in the lead. The Lions would hold on to the lead going into the half thanks to the stingy play of goalkeeper Anel Lilic(SO) who came up with two big saves before half-time.

NGU began the 2nd half strong and was able to score an equalizer in the 47th minute. The Soccer Lions were able to net the game winner in the 81st minute. Andres Mora(FR) intercepted a pass from an NGU defender and after a great run from Austin Grudda to open up the defense, Mora dribbled past one defender and unleashed a cannon from 25 yards away that blasted past the NGU goalkeeper.

"NGU were a good side, and it took a great total team effort to earn this result! This was an important result for us to continue gaining confidence as the season progresses. AND, this was the first time in the 11 year history of the program that we have beaten NGU, that is always a positive thing," states Coach Borchers.
